Ex-Antioch cop takes the witness stand, says he and colleagues hurt people because they enjoyed it

OAKLAND — Disgraced former Antioch police Officer Eric Rombough took the witness stand Thursday to offer jurors the perspective of a cop who admits he hurt people to amuse himself. Taking the stand against Morteza Amiri, his onetime close friend and colleague, Rombough carefully described how the two would go out searching for ways to inflict violence on the city’s residents. They offered to reward each other with a filet mignon dinner, or milk and cookies presented by the other’s wife, Rombough testified, as a woman among Amiri’s supporters shook her head. Outback Steakhouse has been promoting three-course meals starting at $14.99 lately. Facebook posts and Instagram reels promoting the “Aussie Aussie Aussie” deal show thick, sizzling steaks and loaded baked potatoes. We found that isn’t necessarily what you get. On a visit to Outback in San Bernardino, the printed menu showed meals starting at $14.99 with a choice of soup or salad, choice of entree with one classic steakhouse side and a slice of cheesecake. California bills encourage fire home-hardening with grants, tax breaks

Southern California lawmakers have filed two bills creating incentives for homeowners to “harden” their properties against wildfires. A measure authored by state Sen. Steven Choi, R-Irvine, would create tax credits for half the cost of installing upgrades such as fire-resistant roofs, siding, vents, decks and fences or for thinning vegetation. “Anyone who chooses to make their home harder for the wildfire, such as fuel modification, managing the bushes around the house, or whatever, … they will get the tax credit,” Choi said. “This will be a tax incentives for them to do so.” RELATED:  New Bay Area fire-hazard maps: Is your city among those seeing striking increases? Pokemon Go Tour: Unova in Los Angeles has come and gone, and one of the cornerstone events for the mobile game went off smoother than the past year. Niantic solved last year’s problem of long queues, and it shrank the play area, making it feel more condensed and lively. Go Tour was staffed so everyone could access attractions at each habitat and find help when needed. It was an improvement in every way, but at one point, the event could have been much different. Go Tour happened in the wake of the deadly Los Angeles wildfires that devastated the Pacific Palisades and Altadena, which is a short drive from the Rose Bowl, where the event was held.
